I argue that the Indigenous Medicine Wheel is science that is alive and nourishes people with the four directions teachings because I think that without ancient teachings of the Indigenous Medicine Wheel, Aristotle’s and Plato’s knowledge that many academic disciplines are based upon are not sustainable upon our planet earth because in many cases, such as resource extraction the earth is treated like a dead piece of material to be conquered. Indigenous knowledge treats the earth as a living being who we must co-exist with peacefully in balance with nature. The Indigenous Medicine Wheel brings people back in balance with nature (Coggins, 1990), as in the case of the Medicine Wheel Garden Project in Trout Lake Park B.C.:

First Nations Grand Chief Stewart Phillip says the BC NDP/Green Party alliance has given people a new sense of hope as he states:“To make some progress in reconciling the interests of Indigenous peoples within British Columbia with those interests of other groups and certainly… the issue of unextinguished land titles [are things that] need to be addressed.”Phillip says Premier John Horgan and BC Green Party leader Andrew Weaver have acted upon the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People and the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (Brown, 2017, para. 2-5).
